If VW made them, they’d still be making the Beetle. VW made a big msitake by not making the 4-door Beetle! It would
be the #1 car in Mexico forever!

Or imagine if VW had bought or continued to work with Rometsch and made that earlier 4 door design part of the standard design.

Basically, yeah. Literally t he only reason it stopped production when it did is because Mexico City banned 2-door taxi cabs. I mean, I don’t know that it would have lasted to 2018 as a 4-door , but certainly longer than 2003. Emissions may have caught up eventually, though the last of them were about as clean as you can realistically make an air cooled engine.
